Beginning of a new lunar year... 2007

Its been my 25th year of celebrating Chinese New Year in Perak, yet this is only the first time I'm taking pictures of my parent's hometown. Thanks to the ever improving technology and whoever invented the camera phone.

Nearing home at Malim Nawar
I've nearly forgotten how small the road is....

Home at Malim Nawar
Entrance to the home

Classic set up...
The paying counter and my cousin's son (my cousin-nephew?!)

Groceries shelves

the shops
The shops on the same row....all closed!

round incent
The traditional altar and round-coiling-incense..

Young and old
A toy car and an adult's old motorcycle....

And the normal yearly routine...

Catching up at the entrance with the traditional Chinese tea...

Mom and me, with uncle at the back...
(with my favourite corner of this home in the bg....unlimited stock of biscuits and sweets :D )

Every year the good food is the biggest attraction for visiting....but there is also a major turn down. The fact that there isn't much space to occupy so many of us makes sleeping over a nightmare....3 person on double mattress and 1 fan....and lots of mosquitoes to keep us company incase we can't fall asleep (which is obviously so with all those mosquitoes buzzing around...)

But this year I was more than delighted to go back... because we decided to rent a room at the Kampar hotel. :D

Grand Kampar Hotel
The new hotel in Kampar....what a shock to see such nice building in a small town

the room
Wow-wee.... wooden floor boards and contemporary interior design...

the Family suite
the double bed...

More of the room
the partition between bedroom and living room space...

the Single beds
the single beds...

With some interesting view of the town...

Room view by day
view from room in the day...

Room view by night
view from the same window by night....

I've never thought Kampar is sooo happening!!!
And the journey home, I captured photos of a sight that has puzzled me all these years....all these trees I see along the roads...
